Before joining a company, many people don’t know what the job will be like. They often have to rely on online reviews, which can be hard to trust. If they can reach out to people who worked on that team in the past 6–12 months—especially people who have already left—they can get a clearer picture of the team’s real working style and culture. They could also reach out to their future manager’s former direct reports from other companies.
